These are ours. The eight houses, the water below them, the fire the kitchen cooks on, and the hill the whole thing stands on. Nothing here has been staged and nothing has been borrowed.

All of it was shot in a single August, in whatever light the day was giving. Photographs only get you part of the way, but they get you further than adjectives do.

The light moves right across the property between six in the morning and eight at night. We gave up trying to pick a favourite hour.
